PIT Crew Corner:

Minutes from our March 2nd Meeting

1. Spring Fling Silent Auction Grade Level representatives discussed the item they

will be coordinating for the event.

2. We discussed help for Ride the Rockies event in June.

3. We discussed what are the expectations parents have from our school. We

discussed core values and what are the expectations.

4. We discussed what STEM stands for and how can we implement it at HK8. A parent

survey was recommended. Mrs. Yantzer is looking for a parent volunteer to create

and monitor a parent survey this year. If you are interested in helping out

please email Mrs. Yantzer at cyantzer@deltaschools.com

OUR FEBURARY MEETING HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MONDAY, MARCH 2ND FROM 5:30 TO 6:30. ALL PARENTS ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUITY TO BE INVOLVED!

PIT Crew Agenda:

1. 2nd Annual Spring Fling – many volunteers are needed! The date is April 17, 2015!

Each grade level is responsible for a booth and each grade level is responsible to create something for the auction.

• Thank you to all our Grade Level volunteers for the Silent Auction, these grade level coordinators will be getting information out to parents for help for the grade level item. Or come to the PIT Crew meeting to learn more.

Parent Involvement is needed!! We are getting ready for our big FUNDRAISER, OUR 2ND ANNUAL SPRING FLING! The date is April 17, 2015! Each grade level is responsible for a booth. More information will be sent home from teachers/CAP teachers.

Also, as part of the Spring Fling each grade level is being asked to create something for the auction. Each grade level needs one parent to coordinate an item for the silent auction. We still need a few grade level volunteers. This volunteer will help organize the item for their grade level. Please sign up on Volunteer Spot, at the following website: http://vols.pt/xwgevy. You will work with parents from that grade level to create and/or donate the items for the auction.

We are still in need of parents to help out with many of our school activities. If you cannot make a meeting THAT’S OKAY, your help is still greatly appreciated. Please email Mrs. Yantzer! Our success is due to the great partnership between school and home. We would love to have more help with many of our projects here at Hotchkiss K8.

As part of the Spring Fling each grade level is being asked to create something for the auction. The 'something' could be a larger art project that the kids create, a movie basket with popcorn, candy, DVDs, etc., really anything. We are looking for one parent volunteer per grade level to be an auction coordinator. You will work with Lori Falkner to coordinate what your grade level is providing for the auction as well as parents from that grade level to create and/or donate the items for auction. http://vols.pt/xwgevy

PIT CREW Corner . . . PARENT INVOLVEMENT TEAM (We need your HELP ☺!!)

We had our first meeting of the year! Remember all parents are invited to attend. Our next meeting is September 24th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and daycare will be provided.

PIT will once again sponsor our 2nd Annual ZOMBIE RUN. Sundee Shoemaker, Kameal Clark and Sammi Thompson will be organizing this event, but parents we still need more help.

Book Fair will be September 10th, 11th and 12th. Due to budget cuts we do not have a librarian this year and will need parents to help monitor the fair this year. Sammi Thompson is the chairperson for this. Please contact her at shomme592@yahoo.com if you can help fill a time slot on the 10th, 11th or 12th. We need help from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and on Friday from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Harold Burch will operate HELPING HANDS this year. It will begin this Friday. Families that need a “Helping Hand” please contact Mr. Burch at tigerlead14@aol.com or return the form in this Express.

Thank you to Kristian Hill for being our Campbell Soup Coordinator and to Kerry Smith for being our Box Top Coordinator.

Bulldog Learning Centers are afterschool programs that begin during the end of November and go till the holiday break in December. We will be looking for volunteers to teach an afterschool center. More information will be coming.

Beautification - This is our outdoor project to help keep our school looking outstanding. We have been working with our National Junior Honor Society to help with ideas. We do need parents who have a green thumb to help out. Sarah Marshall is working with Mrs. Stein on our Community Garden area. Thank you to Harold Burch and Criss Lange for working on finishing our basketballs hoops!

STEPP Peer Mediators – “Students Trying to Eliminate Problems Peacefully” are for our 5th graders. They are trained in conflict resolution and they serve during lunch recess to help our young students. We are in need of a parent volunteer that would serve as the sponsor and who would be willing to meet with these students once a month to make sure things are in order and running smoothly. Pit Crew Corner - Meeting April 28, 2014 The meeting began at 5:35 p.m.

1. District Accountability

• Sundee Shoemaker reported about school safety and having a police officer in buildings. Here at Hk8 we have officer Shaklee who is in our building and also at HHS. His presence is welcome and appreciated.

• Volunteer database is coming along if you need any volunteers for any end of the year activities, please email her and she will forward them on. Also be checking facebook as we will post needs there too. Carrie said that we will need volunteers for the MS Track Meet on May 13th at HHS at 2:00 p.m.

• 7/8th grade will stay here for next year not sure for the following years.

• High School sport fee has been changed from $90.00 to $100.00 per sport. Middle school sport fee is $40.00 per sport.

• Carrie reported that she is getting bids on the two concrete pads for our school for basketball.

2. Field day-Mrs. Tanner, Kdg. Teacher, is in charge and reported that she will use seniors from HHS to help run activities. Seniors can be here at 10 a.m. after graduation practice.

Last day Activities for MS is as follows:

6th graders – Dillion Pinnacles

7th graders - Sweitzer Lake and Toni DeLuzio will be getting with CAP teachers on what items students can bring for lunch.

8th grade- Crawford Lake- more details to come.

3. Lori Falkner wants to do another auction, so we talked about doing one in the fall and one in the spring at our Spring Fling Carnival.

4. Mrs. Yantzer asked members to think of ideas to get more parents involved in PIT Crew for next year. Send any ideas to her at cyantzer@deltaschools.com

5. Keep checking our Web page and face book for up coming events.

6. There will be no May meeting.

PIT CREW HELP needed

PIT CREW Corner . . .

• We need more parents to help serve on our PIT Crew (Parent Involvement Team). Our next meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 26th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Chow Pound. We are organizing our upcoming Spring Fling Carnival. We will need a lot of help, as we will have a Community Street Dance, Carnival Booths and a Silent Art Auction. At the February meeting we will begin the planning of these events. Please plan on attending.

• We also need parents to help with our TCAP Root Beer Float Celebration at the beginning of March.

• Every parent is a member of the PIT CREW, just plan on coming to the meeting or email Ms. Coats at ccoats@deltaschools.com if you would like to volunteer.

If you are a girl playing basketball in January and didn't get your shirt ordered please see Mrs. Clock today so we can get them ordered before Christmas. Thank-you, Coach Clock.

Mr. Fixmer and our K-5th grade students will be presenting a new kind of holiday program this year called "Reverse Caroling" on December 14th from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. For this performance each class of elementary school students will sing different traditional Holiday carols in their classrooms for a small audience. There will be four-15 minute performances during the evening that parents and community members may walk around the school to view and hear the children singing (imagine carolers but the listeners do the moving). The 7/8 Choir students will be leading each elementary class in singing their carols and playing instruments. Mrs. Bear and Mrs. Young will be providing refreshments in the "Cookie Cottage" for all attendees and participants. Hope to see you there!

The life skills class will be holding a holiday plant sale from December 11th-14th. They will be selling Spider plants and Christmas cactus plants for $2.00 each. You may go to Mrs. Ayers’ room from 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m. or the office lobby area from 3:00 p.m-3: 30 p.m. or on December 14th at the Reverse Caroling Night from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the HK8 Life Skills program.

Just a reminder, school is scheduled for December 18 and December 19. Just incase you missed that on our school calendar. School will be back in session on January 4, 2018.

Choir and Band students will be at the Delta Center for rehearsal on Monday the 11th from 10:00 a.m. until the concert is over. We hope you will be able to join us for this wonderful event!

The life skills class will be holding a holiday plant sale from December 11th-14th. They will be selling Spider plants and Christmas cactus plants for $2.00 each.
